Unity Within Diversity A Musical Meditation [2014]

On the evening of October 14th 2014 choirs and congregation gathered in St. Peter’s Church, Bournemouth to participate in an interfaith Space For Peace. Susan Wood was asked by Rev. June Boyce-Tillman, Professor of Applied Music at Winchester University, to create another book of artwork in response to this happening. In these troubled times the event provided opportunity for members of different faiths to come together in a vigil for peace through music, prayer and meditation. It was a moving, informal occasion enabling conversation and reflection as choirs, performers and congregation walked around the church. In her handwritten letter Susan Wood writes, ‘I have chosen blue for the cover [of the book] and the text as for me it references not only peace, calm and healing but also coolness, distance, lack of communication. The soundscape is drawn from lines of the audio recording I made at the time. The colours reflect the warmth of the congregation and those taking part. It is a landscape of hope.' This book was displayed at The Lighthouse, Poole during the annual Holocaust Memorial event presented by The Bournemouth and Poole Holocaust Day Committee on January 25th 2015 and in Winchester Cathedral during Space For Peace on International Jewish Holocaust Memorial Day on January 27th 2015.
